The Framed Series, 2025

Framed reexamines the narratives of five historically misrepresented women: Joan of Arc, Medusa, Eve, Anne Boleyn, and Pandora. Through the traditional format of cameo portraits, this work reclaims their stories from centuries of misrepresentation and vilification.

Each cameo depicts not only the woman's likeness but the source of their downfall. By employing traditionally feminine craft techniques like collage, beading, and fabric work, the piece creates a deliberate tension between the decorative medium and the subversive message.

This work invites viewers to question how history "frames" women who challenge authority, possess knowledge, or claim their power. Framed asks us to reconsider not only these specific women's legacies but also our contemporary understanding of female defiance and the persistent pattern of punishing women who refuse to conform.
